New Home Blessing Gift

I am a huge fan of sappy old movies. I LOVE TCM!! Watch it all the time. Well, a friend of mine and her husband just moved into their dream home that they designed and had custom built with gorgeous wrap-around views! So I was thinking of all the different things I could make for a housewarming gift - not too sure about colors and so forth, and finally this idea popped in my mind! In It's a Wonderful Life, Jimmy Stewart & Donna Reed give a family a housewarming gift and a blessing with each item -

Bread - that this house may never know hunger
Salt - that life will always have flavor
Wine - that joy and prosperity may reign forever!

So I decided THAT is what I would do! I had pushed the envelope to the very last minute, but with the quick addition of the Olivia papers and The Present stamp set, and a couple of CTMH fonts, my gift was complete!

  1. LOVE your project Christine! What a special housewarming gift! I know they will love it too. "It's a Wonderful Life" seems to be the theme for the week. Doesn't it? (wink, wink) Love ya my friend. xoxo

  3. I loved this idea so much that I used those very words and supplied the bread, wine and salt in a basket to a new neighbor about ten years ago. I did it again for a cousin's house warming just last year. It is a wonderful blessing! I'm sure I will use it again.

    1. That's great Cynthia! I'm glad you were able to use it! I'm on the welcoming committee in our neighborhood and this is what I make for new families that move in our neighborhood! It really is a simple but meaningful gift! :o)
