Brighton Birthday Blessings!

I'm almost done sharing all about my birthday, team meeting, visit with Lisa, etc. I can hear some of you saying "Enough of this! Where's the BEEF!" - or in this case, where's the artwork! It's coming soon....

I just have to share how much I love my team. They are my family - close sisters, treasured friends. And I always look forward to our team meetings - simply because I get to hang out with them, laugh with them, and sometimes cry with them.

At our meeting, Lisa and my sneaky sistas managed to pass around a card and contribute toward a delicious birthday cake (I don't have a picture on my camera), a beautiful hydrangea arrangement, and a Brighton gift!

Aren't these flowers gorgeous?

I adore Brighton jewelry! In fact I give my top quarterly achievers a piece of Brighton jewelry to keep/wear for the quarter. But they have to return it to each team meeting and potentially pass it onto another top achiever. I love that I don't have to give up my bracelet to anyone! I get to keep it and wear it everyday!

Thank you ALL for your thoughtful, "hand-picked especially for me" gifts and the love that embraced me that day. You are the BEST friends and sisters in the world!

Origami Owl Living Lockets

Have you heard of Origami Owl? Their story starts with a teenager and a dream. The company was founded by 14 year-old Isabella in the fall of 2010. Fueled by a goal to raise enough money to buy a car for her 16th birthday, she started the business with $350 worth of babysitting money and a matched contribution from her parents. She sold her unique line of personalized jewelry at home parties and events and quickly realized that this brand has an energy all its own. Needless to say, Isabella has set aside PLENTY for a car - and she's not even 16 yet!!!

Don't you love success stories like that? Know what I love even more? Origami Owl GIFTS! For my birthday, sweet Lisa gave me a personalized living locket necklace!!

You can personalize the charms inside and easily add to or change them day-to-day! She chose 3 very special charms for me: an ichthus (fish) to represent my Christian faith, flip flops to encourage me as I work toward earning the CTMH Southern Caribbean Cruise, and a crown for Queen Christine! LOL!

Isn't it beautiful? I absolutely love it! And guess what else I got???? The most beautiful card in the world, handcrafted by Lisa herself! Isn't it amazing?

Thank you Lisa for such a thoughtful, beautiful, precious gift! YOU are still my favorite gift of all!

Dinner at Lola's

Lola's Pizza in Charleston, WV is a special treat. It's just a little cottage house that has been converted to a restaurant. The decor is eclectic and the menu is deliciously artistic! I wanted to share the experience with Lisa while she was visiting so I suggested we go. But as it turned out, SHE bought ME dinner for my birthday!

We started off with uniquely delicious salads then did a 50/50 split on the pizza - half Steak & Cheese (pan seared chili-rubbed flank steak, white cheddar, fresh garlic, sweet red onions, jalapeno peppers, and mozzarella) and half Artichoke & Goat Cheese (oven roasted tomatoes, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, roasted garlic, goat cheese, and mozzarella). Topped off with a decadent flourless chocolate cake for dessert!

Thanks Lisa! The atmosphere was fun, the food was delicious, and the company was priceless!

The Story of Play-Doh

Do you know the story of Play-Doh?

At our team meeting, I showed a clip from the movie How Do You Know that told the story of how Play-Doh came about.

Paul Rudd can tell the story much better than I can, but I'll give it a shot here since I'm not sure I can legally share the clip online.

Play-Doh was invented by Joseph McVicker in Central Ohio as a white cleaning goo. It was used to remove soot from old fashioned heating off of wallpaper. As gas and electric heating came in, there was no longer a need for the cleaning goo. So Joe's business was going under - fast! Now Kay Zoofall (sp?), his sister-in-law, was a Nursery school teacher. She discovered that her little kids liked squeezing the goo a lot more than the hard modeling clay. So she suggested to her brother-in-law, Joe, that he color the stuff and call it Play-Doh. Joe McVicker became a millionaire before his 27th birthday after re-releasing his product as a toy!

At our meeting, after hearing about all the connections and successes that others are having, there might be a temptation to feel like a flop. To feel like what you are doing isn't working and that you are going under fast! I passed out a mini Play-Doh for everyone to take home as a reminder that we are all one small adjustment away from success. If one venue is not working for you, make a small adjustment and try another! Keep making adjustments until you find your niche! The key is not to give up! Who knows what great success awaits you!

The Best Team Meeting Ever!

This past week, my dear sweet friend (and upline) Lisa Stenz flew out here to WV from CA to participate in our team meeting! I usually only get to see her once a year - at our annual convention. So it was a TREAT to see her in April also AND to have her participate in our meeting AND staying under my own roof!

Lisa shared about building an online presence and the success she has had in that venue. Pam Thor, a Director on my team, spoke about the many benefits of using EZ Invite on our new OBAs.

We also talked about our new FREE websites and newsletters that Close To My Heart is giving every consultant! ALL of these business building tools are available to us FREE of charge making it easier than ever to find success as a business builder or hobbyist!

We also had TWO creative projects for everyone to make. One was a beautiful layout originally designed by Kelli English-Triggs and tweaked by Lisa using the Florentine paper and stickease. Here is just a sneak peek - more later...

The second was the "You Are" Box in which they each placed a card reminding them who and what they are! This was my favorite part of the entire meeting. We had them speed-dating, getting to know each other, actually study each other, learning from each other, etc. The room was filled with chatter and laughter. I LOVED watching them interact this way!

Then we passed around a card with each of their names on the front and everyone had 15 seconds to write a positive word or a phrase about that person inside. What a TREASURE each of these cards are! And an important reminder of who we REALLY are whenever something goes wrong or we are feeling down.

That was only PART of our wonderful day together! More to come...

You Are - April Stamp of the Month

This month's stamp of the month has so many uses! Who doesn't need a stamp set like this to continually encourage others in your life? I saw a card made by fellow consultant Alissa Chilton and knew I had to recreate it! (My card pales in comparison to hers!)

I used some of our Travelin' papers on this card - love the masculine look! And I LOVE the background stamps that come with this stamp set in addition to the cool sentiments, accents, and border! I used the criss-cross background on the top of the card.

Just like Alissa, I added bitty sparkles around the outside of the medallion. Also added a Dimensional Element Star covered in our Stardust Glitz Glitter Gel.

THEN, I wanted to take the exact same stamps and see if I could create a feminine card - since this one feels so masculine and sporty. Is it possible, I wondered?

Absolutely! Thanks to Alissa's inspiration, I was able to quickly and easily make these cards - lickety split! You can too! And guess what? You can click here to find step-by-step instructions to make the artwork you see below! How cool is that?

Are you ready to get this stamp set? It's YOURS this month only for only $17.95. But WAIT - you can get it for only $5 this month with a purchase of $50! Click here to start shopping or contact me this month with your order to qualify for your discounted stamp set!

Operation Smile - Make a Miracle

Over the past 2 months, Close To My Heart consultants were challenged to raise as much money as possible for Operation Smile - to help Make a Miracle for children in need. The consultant with the most donations will have the opportunity to travel to another country to assist Operations Smile on one of their missions!

I've seen some of the numbers and Oh My Goodness! I am amazed and in awe at how much was raised! Thanks to the generosity of my customers and friends at church, we alone raised $480! That's enough to pay for life-changing surgery for two beautiful children!

I also wanted to share a post from one of the leaders on my team - Pam Thor - who submitted a sizable contribution for Operation Smile. Her sweet story brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. I'd love to see her WIN the mission trip! (click here to read all about it)

A big huge thanks to all who participated in this worthy fundraiser! I'm so blessed to know such generous, loving, kind people!

Great Idea for Studio J

You already know how much I LOVE Studio J, I've just learned a few new techniques that I want to try. Here is one idea - such a GREAT idea - that I discovered from Tonya Sheridan.

One of the layout patterns in Studio J is called No Limits. It's just a 12x12 photo well for both pages. I've always considered this pattern exclusively for advanced Photoshop peeps who want to build their own page or collage in Photoshop, save it as an image and load it into the blank page layout. However, after seeing what Tonya did with it, I have all kinds of ideas now!

Tonya used the page to feature a darling close up of her little "brown-eyed girl" and put it along side a classic layout. She even added embellishments to the 12x12 photo page to coordinate with the left page!

OR how about using these pages within Studio J for your front and back cover pages - simply add some text, stickease and other embellishments in Studio J and you are done! (I would use a photo that would introduce the album and another that will close or wrap up the album - perfect for theme albums!) I can't wait to try this!

OR how about using these to create shadowbox gift sets or beautifully frames photos for a family wall? Simply drop the photo in the page and a title, name, date, embellishments - make it as simple or elaborate as you desire! I can't wait to try this!!

Want some hands-on help with Studio J? Contact me to set up an appointment. Want to spend the day with me working on your Studio J layouts? Sign up for my May 5th all day crop to learn even more and accomplish much!

Anyway, I just had to share! I've got more ideas coming soon.....
